Erie County Fair Scholarship Applications Available

Looking for some money to go to college?  The Erie County Agricultural Society, sponsor of the Erie County Fair, and Fairgrounds Gaming will be giving out $14,000 in scholarship money this year.  High school seniors and/or college students can be eligible for this money.  Students who are actively involved in Erie County Fair activities (including, but not limited to; junior exhibit competition, Erie County Fair Marching Band, 4-H or F.F.A. Fair activities) and are high school seniors residing in and attending a high school in Erie County or a student attending college, through their junior year are eligible for our scholarship program.

Hurry, applications are due April 16, 2010!

Jamey Johnson to perform a free concert at the 2010 Erie County Fair

  • Johnson was nominated for the 2009 CMA Awards New Artist of the Year, and has been nominated for the 2010 Academy of Country Music Top New Solo Vocalist.
  • Johnson co- wrote with Bill Anderson and Cannon, George Straits’ #1 hit “Give It Away”, which was Straits’ 41st #1 on the Billboard Country charts, setting a new record for most #1 on that chart.
  • In 2008 Johnson released the album, That Lonesome Song, which was only available online. The album drew the attention of Mercury Nashville Records, who signed him to record deal in 2008.
  • His first single for Mercury Nashville Records, was “In Color,” co-written by Johnson, Lee Thomas Miller and James Otto. “In Color” was released in March 2008 and peaked at #9 on the Country chart in January 2009.
  • Jamey Johnson signed to BNA Records in 2005, and made his debut with his single “The Dollar”, the title track to his 2006 album The Dollar, went on to peak at #14 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Got Talent? Showcase it at the Erie County Fair

The Erie County Fair Talent Contest gives youths the opportunity to showcase their talent in competition. Winners will go on to compete in the New York State Fair in Syracuse. Competitors are given three minutes of fame. There are no entry fees and all contestants will receive free admission into the Fair. Entrants must reside in Erie County, NY and can only compete in one county. No Baton Twirling or Bands are permitted and music must be on a CD. The maxi-contest (13 & over) will be held on Friday, August 14 and the mini-contest (12 & under) will be on Saturday, August 15 on the Community Stage.

All new Rappelling Tower complete!

A new 55 foot high rappelling tower has been constructed for the Erie County Fair in conjunction with the 100 Club of Buffalo, the New York State Trooper Foundation, National Grid, Savarino Construction, GEMCOR and LeChase Construction of Rochester, New York. The tower has been built for the purpose of conducting training and holding free public demonstrations that illustrate the rappelling techniques used by the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT); demonstrations that will include “high angle rescue” and “tactical rappelling”. A team of four SORT members will demonstrate techniques daily during the Fair. A formal dedication ceremony will be held on August 12th at 3 p.m. followed by a display of these techniques by members of the SORT team

Get your Snoopy Entries in by Wednesday!

The Snoopy Look A Like Contest deadline is this Wednesday! Time is flying so fast and the Fair is now only 9 days away. You don’t want to miss out on this all new contest! If your dog looks like snoopy or you know a neighborhood dog that looks like snoopy - enter or encourage a friend to enter. Of course, the owner is strongly encouraged to dress as his/her favorite Peanuts character - all the more fun!

Entry is easy. E-mail or mail your photo to marketing@americas-fair.org or Erie County Fair Snoopy Look A Like Contest, 5600 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075. Include your name, dog’s name, type of dog, mailing address, daytime phone and e-mail address by August 6, 2009 - that’s this Friday! You must be 21 or older to enter with an up to date dog license and dog must have current rabies shot.

The top ten will have their photos posted on www.americas-fair.com from August 8-August 15, 2009. You are encouraged to get online and vote because three random voters will be selected to receive gas cards of $50 and $25 increments! Browse the website under “What to do” for more contest details.

Calling all livestock exhibitors, the entry deadline is FRIDAY, JULY 24th. Hurry up and fill out your entry form by clicking on Competitive Exhibits on the website. The exhibitor ticket price is $15 with premiums raised to 25% to help offset the cost of exhibiting livestock.

You have until this friday to enter Creative Arts Building, Woodcarving and Home Wine Competitive Exhibits. Entry fee is $20 and includes five (5) passes to enjoy the Fair. Don’t miss out on seeing your work on disply and a chance to win the Blue Ribbon!
