I absolutely love the Fair! I plan my vacation time around it. Last summer, I visited the Fair 8 times!
It annoys me to hear people complain about the Fair being so expensive….it comes around once a year and there are ways to save money—–bringing in your own food (picnic baskets/coolers) is allowed (unlike most amusement parks), discount admission tickets, early bird admission, etc….And all the free entertainment! Granted, some of the shows are corny and hokey, but they’re there to enjoy (or not). The best shows, in my opinion, are the chinese acrobats, gary the clown and the balloonologist. Watching the balloonologist, I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard…..he was like Jim Carrey….only crazier!!
Most of my family and friends think I am obsessed with the Fair, and I guess, to some extent, I am. Whenever I drive past the Fairgrounds, I always glance over and think….hmmm, xxx months and xxx days until the Fair’s back! I even got married (August 12, 2006) so my anniversary would be during the Fair. I would’ve gotten married at the Fair, but my husband had to draw the line! Spending our “honeymoon” at the Fair was enough for him!
It all stems from my Dad taking me when I was a kid. He’d get out of work early and we’d get to the Fair around noon and stay until 10/11pm. Back then, there was fireworks every night. I remember we’d be on a ride and the sky was alight. Like magic……
Lots and lots of memories that I relive every year during my visits!
