Fun Food Facts from Fair ‘08

Did you know…there were approximately 25,000 orders of fried dough placed between nine stands at the Fair. Between the six vedors that carried Italian sausage, approx. 6,140 pound of sausage was sold! There were over approx. 230,600 Chiavetta Chicken dinners sold. Make sure you visit the Fair this year to sample all your favorite fair foods along with new foods such as turkey legs, deep fried cheesecake and loaded sweet potatoes!

1960’s Vow Renewal - Groovy!

If you were married in the 1960’s, with proof of marriage date, you can enter to win a chance to renew your vows at the Fair! Five married couples will win a vow renewal ceremony on Grandparents Day, August 18. A special prize will be given to the couple wearing the most original 1960’s attire on the day of the ceremony. June is Dairy Month!

June is when the dairy industry is celebrated for its ecomomic impact on local communities. This is a time to try a new dairy recipe or learn something new about this wonderful industry. But, did you know that out of each dollar a consumer spends on a gallon of milk, a farmer receives a net pay of $0.03 per gallon? This is what is left for a farmer’s family to live on, after providing that cold glass of milk on everyone’s table. I urge you to support and appreciate your local farmers this month. In search of the ECF 2009 Ultimate Fairgoer!

Tell us about the person who demonstrates loyalty to the Fair, can’t get enough of it and best promotes our Fair to family and friends and they could be the next Ultimate Fairgoer! Entries must be submitted by July 31st, 2009 by e-mailing marketing@americas-fair.org or via snail mail to : The Erie County Fair Ultimate Fairgoer, 5600 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075. Include a short story describing the nominee and their dedication along with any photos or other evidence you have for the judges. The winner will win a pass for themselves and one guest valid for admission to the 2009 NY State Fair & any county or youth fair in the state! The best part - it can be used everyday of the event and includes parking where available. The 2009 Ultimate Fairgoer would also receive a copy of the book Reflections of America’s County Fair, 12 Strates ride books, a $50 gift certificate to the Erie County Gift Shop (wow!) and the chance to ride in our Summer Love Daily Parade!

CMT Awards Tonight!

Concert Lineup Duos Nominated for CMT Award

The Erie County Fair is only 62 days away! As you would expect, there is an exciting concert lineup. This year, Montgomery Gentry, performing at the fairgrounds August 13, and Brooks & Dunn, playing on August 16 with special guest Eric Church, have been nominated for 2009 Duo of the Year! Two great acts to compete against one another at the 2009 CMT Music Awards on Tuesday, June 16 at 8/7c. Also, Brooks & Dunn along with Reba McEntire are up for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.” If for some reason you can’t watch or tivo, keep an eye on our blog and we’ll keep you updated!

Enter your Competitive Exhibit Classes Online

Entries are now being accepted online for all classes in Competitive Exhibits for the Erie County Fair.  Submit your entry for Creative Arts (including photography, quilt making, canning, table setting, and more), Woodcarving, Conservation, Home Wine Making, Plant Sciences and Livestock.

  4. Create an account.  Please note:  This information will be on your entries when you come to the Fair, so be accurate

Motor Event tickets go on sale Saturday

Tickets for motor events at the Erie County Fair go on sale Saturday, June 6 at 9am.  You can get tickets at all Tickets.com locations including Tops Friendly Markets, the Agri-Center, online or by phone at 1-888-223-6000.

 The Ultimate Night of Destruction is back for its fifth year on Thursday, August 20.  The event will feature a full size Bus Demolition Derby, Compact Car Figure 8 Racing & Derby, and Car Rollover Contest.  This year, a new twist will be the appearance of Spike TV Star Jimmy Elvis, as he attempts to jump four buses with an F-150.

The Mid Season Truck & Tractor Pull Championships has NEW dates this year, Friday and Saturday  (August 21 & 22).  This event will feature five classes of national competition including Super Modified Tractors, Unlimited Super Stock Tractors, Hot Rod Semis, Super Modified 2WD Trucks and Pro Modified 4WD Trucks.

Sunday, August 23 will be the ever popular World’s Largest Demolition Derby.  Even though rigid safety regulations govern vehicles in these events now, the common denominator is still INSANITY!  Watch as the drives use tactical techniques to win the championship trophy and title of champion.

All tickets purchased in advance include free admission to teh Fair on the day of the show. 

Erie County Fair Job Fair will be May 27

The Agri-Center on The Fairgrounds will be the location for the Job Fair designed specifically for seasonal positions for the Erie County Fair from 11am-8pm on Wednesday, May 27.  There are a variety of positions open including grandstand ushers, gate and admissions attendants, parking lot attendants, media escorts, and cleaning crew.   Typically, these positions will run several weeks in August including before the Fair opens until after the Fair closes.  Be prepared to fill out an application and have an on-site interview.  For more information, call (716) 649-3900 ext 404.

Pepsi Cola Marching Band Sets Audition Date

Auditions for the 2009 Pepsi Cola Marching Band will take place on Monday, June 1, 2009 in the Agri-Center on The Fairgrounds in Hamburg.

All WNY High School students (grades 9-12) that play calrinet, flute, piccolo, saxophone, cymbals, trumpet, bass drum, snare, drum, trombone, tuba, bells, french horn, sousaphone, mellophone, quads or euphonium are invited to try out for the 2009 season.

Approximately 75 musicians will be accepted; students need to be available to play at the various events during the Erie County Fair, which runs August 12-23, including the Daily Parade and various events throughout the community in July & August.  There will also be rehearsals twice per week in June.
